For the sake of transparency, I have included a list of all representatives in our committee. These are all the potential representatives, not all of them will necessarily be in committee.
This should help you better understand who and what you’ll represent in committee, as well as to strategize about who your potential negotiating partners and/or competitors are.

The Three Pashas

Hey delegates! Conference is in less than a week and I hope you all are as excited as I am about it! I wanted to take these final days to talk about the three Pashas, as they were extremely important figures in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The Three Pashas, known as the “the triumvirate,” was composed of Mehmed Talaat Pasha (the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire and Minister of the Interior), Ismail Enver Pasha (the Minister of War), and Ahmed Djemal Pasha (the Minister of the Navy). Together, these three men ruled the Ottoman Empire from a few years before World War I up until the beginning of committee.   Talaat Pasha was born in 1874 as the son of a minor Ottoman official. Kurdish Nationalism

The Kurds have inhabited a large region north of the Arabian Peninsula for nearly 3,000 years. They have retained their own language and culture through the rise and fall of various empires and yet have never been considered as an independent nation. Today, in the 21st century, you may have heard of the Kurds and their involvement in the Syrian Civil war, as well as their strong desire to be recognized as an independent state. However, for the purposes of this committee, we will be considering the Kurdish people as they were in 1918 when nationalist thinking was significantly less widespread.  The modern definition of nationalism is tied closely to a desire for sovereignty and independence. This kind of ideology only began to grow in the Kurdish region around the mid-nineteenth century, when other regions in the Ottoman Empire were beginning to seek independence. But to understand why and how this thinking took so long, we need to look back a little earlier....

Treaty of Sevres

The Treaty of Sevres marked the official partitioning of the Ottoman Empire and carries major implications for out committee. The Treaty was signed in the 1920 between the Allies and the Central Powers, and it resulted in the loss of all non-Turkish territory to the Allies. As a result of this treaty, many individuals in these non-Turkish territories lost their citizenship, and the Treaty was very humiliating for the former Ottoman Empire. While many sources state that the Armistice of Mudros is what initially led to the Turkish War of Independence, the Treaty of Sevres is what truly ignited hostilities among the Turkish community. The Turkish War of Independence was very successful from the perspective of the Turkish rebellion. In 1923, the Treaty of Lausanne was signed, and it officially marked the establishment of Turkey.
