We are so excited to have you all at BMUN 67! As a dais, we have put in a lot of work to  make this an amazing committee and we hope you will feel the same way come March!

Here is the link to our committee page on the BMUN website. There, you will find the Executive Summary of the topic, the Topic Synopsis, and the Position Paper Guidelines! Reading the Topic Synopsis is crucial to your understanding of the topic and the direction that we would like the committee to take. Also, you absolutely must follow the position paper guidelines, and note that they have changed significantly since last year (and were updated around New Year's Eve so make sure you have the updated version). Oh, and make sure to watch the Head Chair video too!

We want to take this blog post to discuss Zionism in the Ottoman Empire. Zionism, within its historical context, generally refers to people who support the creation of a Jewish state of what is now known as Israel. The term in the modern era has become affiliated with being for or against Jewish individuals; however, from a historical and practical aspect, we will only be discussing the debate surrounding the creation of a Jewish state. The Three Pashas

Hey delegates! Conference is in less than a week and I hope you all are as excited as I am about it! I wanted to take these final days to talk about the three Pashas, as they were extremely important figures in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The Three Pashas, known as the “the triumvirate,” was composed of Mehmed Talaat Pasha (the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire and Minister of the Interior), Ismail Enver Pasha (the Minister of War), and Ahmed Djemal Pasha (the Minister of the Navy). Together, these three men ruled the Ottoman Empire from a few years before World War I up until the beginning of committee.   Talaat Pasha was born in 1874 as the son of a minor Ottoman official. At the age of 19, Talaat was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for “subversive political activity.” Afterward, he worked with the post and telegraph service in the empire as chief secretary. Treaty of Sevres

The Treaty of Sevres marked the official partitioning of the Ottoman Empire and carries major implications for out committee. The Treaty was signed in the 1920 between the Allies and the Central Powers, and it resulted in the loss of all non-Turkish territory to the Allies. As a result of this treaty, many individuals in these non-Turkish territories lost their citizenship, and the Treaty was very humiliating for the former Ottoman Empire. While many sources state that the Armistice of Mudros is what initially led to the Turkish War of Independence, the Treaty of Sevres is what truly ignited hostilities among the Turkish community. The Turkish War of Independence was very successful from the perspective of the Turkish rebellion. In 1923, the Treaty of Lausanne was signed, and it officially marked the establishment of Turkey.
